SICA Council of Ministers 2019

President of ICTSG and Chairman of UNESCO's Advisory Committee on Traditional Sports and Games Mr. Khalil Ahmed Khan addressed the SICA Council of Ministers Meeting 2019 through a video message.

GUATEMALA: A meeting of the Council of Minister of the Central American Region was hosted in Guatemala under the auspices of Central American Educational and Cultural Coordination (CECC/SICA) on April 4.

The Meeting was chaired by the Host Minister of Culture and Sports of Guatemala Mr Elder Suchite and the Secretary General of the CECC/SICA Mr. Carlos Staff.

Cultural ministers of eight countries attended the Meeting including that of Belize, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama and the Dominican Republic.

Mr. Khan, through a video message, invited the Central American countries to join the UNESCO TSG Group of Friends by signing the Letter of Commitment and highlighted the importance of preserving and developing traditional and indigenous sports in regions such as Central America itself.

He also emphasized on the work done by UNESCO and its Advisory Committee on traditional sports and games for its safeguarding and promotion.

Mr. Khan also nominated Mr. Luis Bruzon Delgado, Culture Coordinator of SICA as the Regional Coordinator of traditional sports in Central America.

After the Meeting, the Governments of Guatemala and Belize signed the Letter of Commitment and joined the UNESCO TSG Group of Friends respectively.
